Today is not the Fourth Friday, but is is the night a few people and I gathered to discuss the next one. We will be hosting a Game Night where people can bring their board games, card games, or table top games to play with others. The event is only really 2 hours long, but it will be nice. Each Fourth Friday we host a fellowship at the Baha’i Center, welcoming people of all faiths and lack of a faith to come together and mingle. First, we watched KPop Demon Hunter for a movie night, then we hosted Show and Tell. This month is Game Night, November will be about Gratitude, and December will be making Vision Boards. We’re thinking another movie for January (Peanut Butter Falcon we’re thinking), a White-Elephant Gift exchange for February, and a D&D night for March. Show and Tell may come back in April, but to be fair, that’s all next year. Nothing is super finalized at this time.
These fellowships start with food (Pizza and Salad), then after an hour is an intro to the event. We let the event run for 1.5 hours then we have 30 minutes after to mingle over deserts. It’s a good excuse to gather. It’s my hope that more gatherings like this can be open to people. I’m not too certain of places where mingling is possible in the real world unless it is hosted by a religious organization for people expecting to join the faith. Perhaps people aren’t expected to join the faith. I know this event no one is expected to. It’s all about coming together and mingling with others more.
The best part about the meeting today was thinking of how D&D could be introduced to others. There was one person in particular we thought of, and the wild part was he actually was in the building we were at the time of the meeting. We spoke to him and he was just so happened to be thinking of ways to get back into D&D. On top of it all, it was his birthday today. What a wild turn that was!
Another D&D moment, in meeting with my group on Tuesday, a person rolled a d100 and got an item for the party. That item that allows us to go to other realms. Just so happened, one of the realms was exactly what she needed. It was tied to her back story. It was wild that of all that happened, and it shifted the route of our entire campaign now that our characters all decided to accompany her into the Feywilds.
Those two incidents just remined me of the glory that can be found in meeting with people in real life. I do not mean to dox online interaction. There’s just a while other realm that happens in person. A synergy that can happen which is magical or spiritual all in its own right. It’s felt even online, when you’re with the people you care about. Online depends mostly on our own perceptions though. In person, you get more ques I think. There’s something in the air that one can’t easily put a finger on. It also can depend on perception also though.
It’s funny how it all works out. Still, Fourth Fridays is shaping up to be a good time. I hope the other ones we run are just as good. What are your thoughts about the whole in person vs online events? Would you attend a Fourth Friday in your area? Would you opt to go into the Feywilds if it was an option for you party? So many questions, all the time for answers. Your opinion is valid.
