The Lilac Festival had a 5k run on May 18th. I didn’t run it. I couldn’t. Before I was able to walk 0.2 miles without feeling pain and needing to take a break. Needless to say, I could not walk for 3 miles. That said, I still went.
I still cheered on my team.
“My Team” ended up being more than those from our fitness center. it ended up being many more who took in our message of “Get It Daily” to heart. They’ve done it before, they could do it again. It was great cheering on the racers and walkers. Some people joined just to join, others did so for the record. People ran, some walked. it was wonderful seeing so many people together for one purpose. I hope just as many people show up to the walk I was planning to do in September.
I couldn’t stop thinking about it. Would people come out to support mental illness as they had the Lilac Festival? One that people had to pay money to participate in verses one they raised money for? It was not fair to compare, but one can hope.
Our place was just before the 3 mile mark. Myself and another stood cheering on people. It was a lot like life. Lots of people cheer you on in the beginning of life or the start of your journey, and then again at the end, when you’re near the finishing line. Where were people in the middle of the journey? What happens when others aren’t watching? It makes me curious.
Soon I will find out as I start walking longer. Next year I will work on the Lilac 5K run, and actually run. This year, I will work on walking. If anyone would like to read more about the mission, they can follow this link to learn more about the Daily Dragons. You can also go to the Roster to hear more about my personal journey. You can even join the team and not be a walker, but be someone to help raise funds.
The feeling of being at the run inspired me for the walk. I just hope a decent amount of people show up to support. I have been walking every other day and can walk up to 1.7 miles without much pain now. That was as of April 27, 2024. We’ll see how it really goes. Comment to show support are always welcome.
Thank you for any support you can offer.
