Just like that, we are at the final instalment of interviews with the owner of Boldo’s Armory. The entirety of this interview took place on March 5th, 2025. It was a long time since conducting interviews for the Monroe Doctrine at MCC. The absolute first time an interview was transposed (nearly) word for word and shared with the world. A fan of it? Have some suggestions? Comments are always welcome. Without further ado, the final installment of the first Maekonect Interview ever:
Jak: I don’t know if you’re big into anime….
Boldo: Not at all.
Jak: …but there is one anime called “That Time I was Reincarnated As A Slime,” and it’s good because the main character does not run around just killing everything. He actually works with the different monsters and the different creatures and actually puts up, or builds a town – a functional town, and teaches people jobs and works together. He’s not the strongest ever and it’s just very different from most animes that I’ve ever see and, I think you would like it! If you ever wanted to give it a shot. No pressure.
Boldo: I don’t like the art style.
Jak: You don’t like the ar- Have you heard of it?
Boldo: No. I don’t like the anime art style.
Jak: Oh, you don’t like the anime art style, okay okay. Yeah, I don’t think I have anything to fix that.
Boldo: Right. Right. My problem is with the anime genre has created all sorts of specific, stylistic things which I find…
Jak: With the big eyes?
Boldo: Well, there is a-… there’s a whole lot of… I wanna say, call it the shaking screen, in which it just – like, when a character has a revelation.
Jak: Oh yeah, that…
Boldo: Yeah, ‘ooh shiny stuff. Oh, I got it!’
Pause for special imaginary effects and laughter. There were no words to describe it.
Boldo: Yeah, no, that’s uh… that bugs me.
Jak: Okay, that’s fair.
Boldo: Yeah
Jak: That’s alright. It’s good to see some medias tie everything together that’s not just – Same with Strange World, it ties things together, where it’s not just about killing everything in sight. What I was getting at is I was wondering what you’d consider your class to be if you did have to-..like, when I say class, I mean in DnD terms type of things, if you wanted to ever-
Boldo: I don’t.
Jak: -confine yourself to that- yeah.
Boldo: I don’t. I think all their classes actually revolve entirely around killing. Even the cleric is basically a killer.
Jak: Inflict Wounds
Boldo: Well, ya know, just keeping the other people alive so they can keep killing, yeah, it’s just not my thing, and yes, I guess you can play a magic user. In fact, years ago I had a player who played a magic user who had no spell anyone ever wanted. He had absolutely no way to cause damage.
Jak: That is great!
Boldo: He refused to attack.
Jak: Oh, that’s awesome! A wizard character like that? Wow!
Boldo: And, uh… so like a rope trick where he’d climb a rope and get into a safe spot. That was one of his more used spells.
Jak: Oh my goodness.
Boldo: But yeah, he was the other wizard, okay? So… And he actually created one of my favorite magic user motif ideas
Jak: Oh, what was it?
Boldo: Oh he just won. Oh, uh, A magic user can basically make an infinite amount of money by casting spells for people. Mending and locks on things and…
This was the time work came up. I gathered things together and bubkled down for the final question of all questions.
Jak: …At this point, what do you want out of life?
Boldo: I’ve had a good life. I had a fairly large scare a year ago, and I believe I have done mostly what I’m happy with doing, and uh, what I want is I want to make sure Boldos continues to exist., and I want to continue my work with… I wanna see OACES expand, the Office of Adult Career Education Services. Provides job training and skill development for people without a high school diploma. And… I really want to work with the police with the body cameras to get toa place where it doesn’t need me.
Jak: Um, do you currency have things in place for Boldo’s to continue, like with your partners?
Boldo: We’re working on it.
Jak: Good. I would definitely like to see this place continue also. I know lots of people would. Alrighty. Well, let’s see – I think that’s basically it? Is there anyway that I can say thank you?
Boldo: Say ‘Thank you.’ Pay it forward.
Jak: Alrighty. Well, thank you very much.
Boldo: You’re welcome.
And thus the interview concluded, with a better insight of the man behind the name. While this blog post captures the words, it does not quite capture the vibes of Alex White, nor the environment. It’s homey, welcoming, and just something one must experience themselves. Take care, have luck that you make the most of your visit when you’re there next.
If there’s anyone you’d like me to interview, leave a comment or message me directly some how. Until next time. Take care. Have luck. Creator bless.
