Interview with Boldo, Part IV

Another week, another section complete. The week in between the last post has been hectic and chaotic in the best ways. Many revelations took place as I spiraled down into myself. It makes me wonder if Boldo also experienced this. How could he with the specifics considering our different demographics? Perhaps that is why I wanted to do this interview in the first place with him. It still allowed room for reflection and understanding on someone I looked up to for so long.

Jak: I know it would be nice if people were able to live in an environment or an area where it was that simple…. I only say this because some people are literally are afraid for their own existence because of where they live and there there because-

Boldo: Move.

Jak: Yeah, that’s what I’d like to say! I would love to says that.

Boldo: I’m sorry. I’m sorry.  I’m CIS and White, so there’s very little that I had experience or sympathize with that I don’t want to sound like I’m dismissing your concerns, but sometimes you have to ask yourself, “is this really the best place for me?” Or, quite simply, “What can I do to change it?” I mean, I’ve mentioned before the uh… I can remember what their names were, this group of Chicago Grandmothers who would walk into gun fights. Ya know? One of the major concerns that started the UCLM group was about police attacking Black people. And how that makes neighborhoods less safe because no one then wants to go to the police.

Jak: Yeah…

Boldo: Okay? …..Daniel Prudes brother who said to the police, “Don’t Kill Him…” That shouldn’t have ever be a thing. There’s something seriously wrong, and, you know, I know first hand, that you can get together, you can activate people, and you can do things to make changes, okay? Because we have very successfully made changes to police behavior. Okay? They now have body cameras on. We now know when they’re doing bad things, so, that makes a difference.

Jak: Yes.

Boldo: So, ya know, go out and make that happen. It’s not even controversial anymore… Body camera’s are now an accepted part of police. It’s a question of whether you community wants to make the investment in them.

Jak: Yeah.

Boldo: So… convince them they want to make the investment.

At this point I had to check to see how much time I had left before 30 minutes was up. There were many parts to delve into after all.

Jak: Well, I still want to at least at this point say Thank You, because you are being authentically yourself, and I still want to thank you for this space because it’s one of the few places where I feel Authentically myself. Even though I’ve only been in here twice. Um, but…. I want to say… hmm. I know people should find their own quests.

Boldo: Sure

Jak: to Find something that they want to do and do it. That they don’t need somebody to tell them what to do, but would you ever be open to being a person who gives quests.

Boldo: …No.

Jak: You don’t think it’s you?

Boldo: No, I think it would come off as me… I think it would come off as me being… basically telling people how to live and uh, being… come off as me acting superior to people and.. Nah, I don’t think that’s the way to do it. I think people are either going to or not going to. And, ya know, if you want to do this, I can make suggestions, but, I’m not going to give out quests for people to accomplish, that… ya know, that comes off as me telling people how to live. Ya know, Live how you want, okay, but live with the consequences, so.

Jak: Okay, no That’s fair. That is fair. So I wanna bring us back to some game play a little. I know you said you haven’t played like a tabletop RPG in about 15 years.

Boldo: Yeah… and have no interest.

Jak: No interest?! Whhhhyyyyeeee?!

Boldo: The last game play of mine  was basically a disaster.

Jak: Oh nooooooo

Boldo: I don’t understand adventuring.

Jak: Okay…

Boldo: Okay? I don’t understand it in any imaginable way.

Jak: Oohh… You’re probably more of a person who’s like ‘if you want to go on some grand adventure, let’s do it in the real life and make things happen?’

Boldo: Well no, I mean,… i’m going to use mainly dnd terms here, and uh, ya know, it really bugs me that the good players are there to kill monsters.

Jak: Yeah! I don’t-… I’m not-…!

Boldo: It really bugs me. It really bugs me that you’re not ever, ya know, doing anything actually really good. In fact, ya know, I can understand the argument if someone playing an Elf says “we have to kill all humans.”

Jak: … Yeah.

Boldo: “They’re polluting and destroying the planet. We must kill all humans. It’s about my grandchildren who are gonna be here about six thousand years from now.” It just… the basic dynamic that everything human centered good, everything non-human centered bad. Or! “I’m just stealing things from other people.”

Jak: That’s why I…

Boldo: It’s just…

Jak: That’s my thing too. I love RP, um and I think I like Tabletop RP, but it’s the Kill people and get rewarded type of thing that bugs me when it’s like there’s no point to it. Like give me some substance, I want Story, let’s do some good here. Actual good.

Boldo: Yeah, I dont handle your basic adventure storyline, and, quite simply, ya know, uh, in my mind, it would be way better to se up a successful business to provide a service need to the town, way more important than going out and killing Goblins. I mean, you have a Goblin problem, build a better wall. Negotiate with the Goblins, what do they need and want? Why are they doing this? This makes no sense for them either!

He brings up many good points. The while conversation reminds me of something. A something that will be revealed next time. For now, I must adhere to my bodys needs and sleep. Rest well friends and fellows.
